Street Santa

20 Dec
A rather festive hello!
Well, it’s all festive in the Bulan resisdence. Mince pies have been eaten, wine has been mulled, electricity has been fused by plugging in too many fairy lights (really), and I am just about to put the Christmas dinner on. Finished work for the year today as well.
However, despite all the stollen and carol services, I think I felt at my most Christmassy on Monday night. As it was the last week we were able to do streetwork before Christmas, we took with us some mince pies and a "lucky dip" – i.e. all the Christmas presents left over from the City Lunch. As Scott and I paraded the dark, freezing streets singing carols in terrible two-part disharmony, I did rather feel like the Spirit of Christmas Present, or the Santa of the Streets, or something. Or… maybe it was the birthday boy himself walking the streets, delighting lonely, frustrated, slightly hopeless people with a few minutes of Christmas cheer, kindness and a good chat, and simultaneously giving me a reminder of what it’s really about.
"Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
 but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant,
      being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
      he humbled himself
      and became obedient to death—
         even death on a cross!"
         – Philippians 2:5-8
I love the name Immanuel – God With Us. What a God; what mindboggling love. God rest ye merry, everyone :o)
